The Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Diponegoro University, organized a series of Visiting Lecturer activities featuring an international guest lecturer, Dr. Muhammad Safwan Zaini from Universiti Putra Malaysia. Coordinated by Dr. Erik Bhekti Yutomo, the program took place from May 19 to 21, 2026, and featured various academic agendas designed to enhance student capacity, particularly in the fields of advanced materials research, scientific publication, and international postgraduate study opportunities.
The initiative commenced with a Joint Supervision session on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in Meeting Room 2 of the Physics Department. Led by Dr. Erik Bhekti Yutomo alongside Dr. Muhammad Safwan Zaini, the session featured a physics student from the class of 2023, Irsyad Savero, who presented his research findings and progress on the simulation of perovskite materials for solar cell applications. The subsequent discussion provided fresh perspectives regarding research methodology, simulation data interpretation, and research development directions that hold the potential for publication in international journals. The presence of the guest lecturer from Universiti Putra Malaysia also provided invaluable experience for the student in understanding the research standards applicable within the international academic environment.
The program continued with a General Lecture held on the same day on the 3rd floor of the Old Deanery Building, FSM Undip. Moderated by Dhani Nur Indra Syamputra, S.Si., M.Sc., the lecture focused on the theme “Fundamental Principles of Low-Dimensional Materials and Their Recent Applications.” During the session, Dr. Muhammad Safwan Zaini explained the core concepts of low-dimensional materials, such as two-dimensional materials and nanomaterials, alongside their expanding applications across various modern technological sectors, including electronics, energy, sensors, and optoelectronic devices. Students gained an understanding of how the unique characteristics of materials at the nanoscale can yield physical properties distinct from bulk materials.
On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the agenda proceeded with a Manuscript Clinic held at the Laboratory of Electronics and Instrumentation, FSM Undip, and moderated by Dr. Suci Faniandari, S.Pd., M.Si. In this session, participants received presentations regarding strategies for producing high-quality scientific publications, ranging from structuring the manuscript and selecting appropriate journals to techniques for improving acceptance rates in reputable international journals. In addition to the instructional material, participants had the opportunity to receive direct feedback on the manuscripts they were currently drafting.
The series of activities concluded with a Material Sharing Session moderated by Dr. Erik Bhekti Yutomo. During this final session, Dr. Muhammad Safwan Zaini introduced various research collaboration opportunities at Universiti Putra Malaysia, including available research facilities, developing research topics, and prospects for academic cooperation between the two institutions. Furthermore, participants obtained information regarding postgraduate study programs at Universiti Putra Malaysia, covering admission requirements, research schemes, and scholarship opportunities accessible to international students.
