Supriyanto Ardjo Pawiro was born in Cilacap in 1979 and completed his elementary to high school education in Cilacap, Central Java. In 1997, he pursued his undergraduate studies in the Department of Physics at Diponegoro University with a focus on Radiation and Medical Physics. His undergraduate thesis topic was a Physical Study of Magnetic Resonance Imaging under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nur, DEA, and Dr. Catur Edi Widodo.
After graduating with his bachelor’s degree in May 2001, Supriyanto Pawiro became involved in the preparation of the TPSDP project for the undergraduate Physics program and gained experience in educational institution development under the coordination of Prof. Muhammad Nur. In September 2002, he decided to continue his studies for a Master of Physics, specializing in Medical Physics with a curriculum based on the standards of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Djarwani Soeharso. After graduating in January 2005, Supriyanto Pawiro became an adjunct lecturer, teaching basic physics courses and practical courses in Diagnostic Radiology Physics and Radiotherapy Physics at the undergraduate level.
In June 2006, he was awarded an IAEA Fellowship to participate in a six-month Medical Physics Radiotherapy training program at the Department of Radiation Oncology, National Cancer Center Singapore. Afterward, he collaborated with Prof. Djarwani to propose and manage IAEA projects for the development of Medical Physics in Indonesia, focusing on academic resource development at universities, clinical medical physicists at hospitals, and procuring equipment to support undergraduate and postgraduate education and research. In 2008, he was selected as a recipient of the Asea Uninet Technological Grant from the Austrian Government to continue his studies at the Center for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering at the Medical University of Vienna, which he completed in November 2011. His research focused on the development of a calibration system for Image Guided Radiation Therapy devices to evaluate 2D/3D registration software.
Before returning to the University of Indonesia, Supriyanto Pawiro completed an internship at the Department of Human Health, Department of Nuclear Applications at the International Atomic Energy Agency, and resumed his activities at the Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia in March 2012. In addition to teaching and conducting research in Radiotherapy Physics, Supriyanto Pawiro took over the management of the IAEA project for the development of medical physics resources in Indonesia from Prof. Djarwani. Since 2014, he has served as the National Project Coordinator for two National Projects and two Regional Projects related to Medical Physics and as an alternate NPC for one Regional Medical Physics project. In collaboration with AIPFMI, Supriyanto Pawiro, as the Chair of the Indonesian Medical Physicists Alliance from October 31, 2015, to August 10, 2024, initiated the medical physicist professional training program at the University of Indonesia, which became the foundation for the first Professional Medical Physicist Education program at Diponegoro University and the initiation of the Medical Physicist Residency Program. As of September 1, 2024, his appointment as Professor in the field of Radiotherapy Physics at the University of Indonesia was approved and confirmed by the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia.
