Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — Neili Sa’adah, a Master’s student in Physics at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), participated in the World Class University (WCU) – Students Go International 2026 program hosted by Universitas Diponegoro at Universiti Malaya (UM), Malaysia, from August 2–8, 2026. This initiative is part of Universitas Diponegoro’s ongoing commitment to expanding students’ academic horizons and international experience through direct learning in educational, research, and healthcare environments in Malaysia.

The activities were conducted across several academic and research facilities at Universiti Malaya. At the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya, the student had the opportunity to explore the academic environment and tour the Radiation Laboratory facilities. While at the Radiation Laboratory, she was introduced to various radiation research equipment, including X-ray machines, GammaCell irradiators, HPGe detectors, and TLD readers. These activities provided valuable insights into the utilization of radiation sources, radiation detection and measurement techniques, and dosimetry in support of research in radiation physics and medical physics.

The program continued at the Nanotechnology and Catalysis Research Centre (NANOCAT), Universiti Malaya. At this research center, participants gained hands-on experience and insights into nanotechnology research, particularly focusing on nanomaterials and various material characterization methods. The introduction to NANOCAT’s research facilities provided participants with a firsthand view of a multidisciplinary research environment and the application of characterization technologies in driving scientific research forward.

In addition to campus-based activities, participants had the opportunity to visit Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya – PPUM). The visit to PPUM offered valuable exposure to the clinical and medical applications of physics, particularly through an introduction to Computed Tomography (CT-Scan) technology and radiotherapy.

This series of activities at Universiti Malaya provided students with a comprehensive experience by bridging learning across academic environments, research laboratories, and healthcare facilities. It served as a pivotal opportunity for students to broaden their perspectives on technological advancements in physics, particularly in radiation, nanotechnology, medical imaging, and medical physics.

Beyond gaining technical and academic insights, the program also served as a platform to foster communication and expand international academic networks. Engaging with lecturers, researchers, and the academic community at Universiti Malaya offered fresh perspectives on research culture and learning environments in overseas higher education institutions.

The Students Go International 2026 program is expected to contribute significantly to enhancing the competencies of Universitas Diponegoro students while strengthening their international academic outlook and networks. The knowledge and experience gained throughout these activities are envisioned to support the students’ ongoing academic and research pursuits at Universitas Diponegoro.
