Semarang – The Geophysics Study Group at Diponegoro University once again hosted its signature academic event, “Geo Short Course 2025: Seismic Operation and Data Processing in Oil and Gas Exploration,” on September 27, 2025, at the Acintya Prasada Building (AP401), FSM UNDIP. This initiative is part of a strategic effort to enhance the competence and insight of geophysics students in understanding the comprehensive oil and gas exploration process—specifically seismic operations and data processing, which serve as the fundamental pillars of subsurface interpretation.
Featuring experienced practitioners from PT Geosciences Indonesia Servis, Sri Sadono and Agus Eko Setiawan, the event provided participants with direct perspectives from the industrial world.
The program began with a presentation on seismic operations in oil and gas exploration by Sri Sadono, who systematically explained the stages of seismic data acquisition, field challenges, and the critical importance of survey design in producing high-quality data. This was followed by a session led by Agus Eko Setiawan, who discussed seismic data processing, covering everything from initial processing to advanced stages aimed at improving subsurface imaging quality.
Through this short course, students gained more than just theoretical knowledge; they acquired practical insights into how seismic data is processed and utilized for exploration decision-making in the oil and gas industry. Such exposure is vital in bridging the gap between classroom learning and the actual demands of the professional world.
UNDIP Geophysics hopes that Geo Short Course 2025 will serve as a sustainable platform for student capacity building while strengthening the synergy between academia and industry to produce graduates who are competent, adaptive, and ready to compete in the energy sector.
