Semarang, 13 August 2025 – As part of implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, students from the Physics Department, Diponegoro University (UNDIP), carried out a Community Service Program (PPM) at SMA Mardisiswa Semarang. The activity aimed to enhance high school students’ interest in physics through a contextual approach using a simple experiment on the phenomenon of light dispersion.

The program, held on Wednesday, 13 August 2025, was led by Flora Annafi Ghazelov as team leader, with team members Anindhita Intan Nuraini, Faditya Aldi Nugroho, Fauzan Novriandi Firjatullah, and Muthia Qobila Husnayaini. The activity was supervised by Dr.Eng. Ali Khumaeni, S.Si., M.Eng. and Oki Ade Putra, M.Si.

The series of activities included an introduction, interactive presentations, dispersion experiments, post-tests, and evaluations. The presentation session introduced students to the basic concepts of optics, particularly the properties of light and the phenomenon of dispersion. This material was delivered interactively, supported by animations and visual illustrations.

Understanding was further strengthened through simple hands-on experiments using an aquarium filled with water, a CD disc, and a prism. These tools vividly demonstrated how white light disperses into a spectrum of colors, similar to the formation of a rainbow.

Evaluation results showed that the Grade XII students demonstrated high enthusiasm. This was evident from the critical questions, active discussions, and strong interest in the subject matter. Their active participation created a lively, inspiring, and productive learning atmosphere.

This activity is expected to serve as a bridge of collaboration between Diponegoro University and SMA Mardisiswa in promoting science literacy. Students are encouraged to continue developing their interest and deepening their understanding of physics while recognizing its relevance in real-life contexts. The organizing team also hopes that similar initiatives can be carried out sustainably, providing wider benefits for society while also serving as a valuable learning platform for UNDIP students.
