UNDIP, Jakarta (08/08) – Diponegoro University (UNDIP) once again demonstrated its standing as a research-driven institution with real-world impact through the achievements of Professor of Physics, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nur, DEA, from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, at the prestigious Indohealthcare & GAKESLAB Expo 2025 held on August 6–8, 2025, at Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo), Kemayoran.

During the opening of this international-scale exhibition, Prof. Nur not only represented UNDIP as a keynote speaker in the Product Innovation session, presenting Ozone and Plasma technologies, but also received a prestigious award from GAKESLAB Indonesia and GOINDO. The award recognized his contributions in accelerating the downstreaming and commercialization of plasma-based healthcare technologies developed at Diponegoro University.

Notably, UNDIP was the only university to receive such recognition in a forum largely attended by Health Polytechnics (Poltekkes) and domestic and international medical device industry players. UNDIP’s participation reaffirmed its commitment to research utilization aimed at supporting national development and boosting the competitiveness of Indonesia’s healthcare industry.

The innovative Ozone and Plasma technologies showcased are a tangible example of synergy between academic research and the needs of industry and society. “We believe research results should not remain in the laboratory. There must be continuity through downstreaming so that the benefits can be directly felt by society. The Ozone and Plasma technologies we developed are now being applied in various sectors, including medical device disinfection and waste treatment,” said Prof. Nur.

Indohealthcare & GAKESLAB Expo serves as a vital platform for strengthening collaboration and building an integrated national healthcare industry ecosystem in synergy with research and technology from higher education institutions. “UNDIP is honored to be part of such a major event. This proves that academic innovations can stand alongside industry players and drive the creation of a national innovation ecosystem. This award further solidifies UNDIP’s role as a dignified and impactful university, aligned with our vision to become a world-class research institution with tangible contributions to national development,” Prof. Nur remarked in his address.

During his session, Prof. Nur presented flagship research and successfully commercialized technologies, particularly Ozone and Corona Plasma innovations. These not only demonstrated the strength of academic research but also emphasized the application of appropriate technology for the health and environmental sectors.

“The medical plasma ozone technology we developed stemmed from concerns over the treatment of chronic wounds, especially diabetic wounds. This research has been in development for a long time through UNDIP’s Center for Plasma Research (CPR) and has now been applied in various healthcare facilities, including in Semarang and Grobogan,” Prof. Nur added.

This technology has proven effective in accelerating the healing of diabetic wounds and is currently used by medical professionals in several regions, including the Fatchul Wound Care nursing team in Grobogan, known for its successful application of plasma ozone therapy. According to Prof. Nur, the technology also has broader potential as an adjuvant treatment, in line with the Madrid Protocol 2020.

In addition to plasma ozone, Prof. Nur has developed corona plasma capable of purifying air from microorganisms and viruses, offering an innovative solution for improving indoor air quality in enclosed spaces such as hospitals, health centers, and public areas.

Indohealthcare & GAKESLAB Expo 2025 is recognized as Indonesia’s largest medical device and healthcare innovation exhibition, this year carrying the theme “Integrated Healthcare Industries.” The event featured more than 60 companies and institutions from 12 countries—China, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Germany, Malaysia, Pakistan, Taiwan, Turkey, and the United States—showcasing the latest technologies and products in health, laboratory, and medical equipment.

Beyond being an exhibition, the Expo also served as a strategic cross-sector collaboration forum involving industry, academia, government, and both national and international communities. The program was enriched by activities such as the GAKESLAB Indonesia National Working Meeting, policy and regulatory seminars on medical devices, dialogues on export opportunities for MSMEs in the medical sector, children’s health education, and CSR programs promoting healthy lifestyles.

UNDIP’s presence and the recognition granted by GAKESLAB and GOINDO stand as proof that universities play a vital role in creating innovative, applicable technologies while fostering national self-reliance in the healthcare sector. UNDIP remains committed to transforming knowledge into real-world solutions, in line with its vision of being a Dignified and Beneficial campus.
