On Monday (May 19), the community service team consisting of Dhani Nur Indra Syamputra, S.Si., M.Sc., Heri Sugito, S.Si., M.Sc., Dr. Dra. Sumariyah, M.Si., Drs. Isnain Gunadi, M.Si., Jatmiko Endro Suseno, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., F.Med., Prof. Dr. Kusworo Adi, S.Si., M.T., and Prof. Dr. Drs. Catur Edi Widodo, M.Si., conducted a community service activity at Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Qudsiyyah in Kudus City, Central Java. The event carried the theme “Training on the Use of Smartphone-Based Data Acquisition Applications to Enhance the Learning Experience in Physics Practicum.” This topic was chosen to address students’ difficulties in accessing laboratory equipment during physics lessons.

The activity began with an introduction to the Phyphox application by Dhani Nur Indra Syamputra, S.Si., M.Sc. Phyphox offers a practical solution for physics education by utilizing sensors embedded in smartphones. During the session, students at MA Qudsiyyah had the opportunity to try physics experiments firsthand using the application. The practicum involved calculating the coefficient of restitution of an object by dropping a ball onto the floor and measuring the rebound height.

The students participated enthusiastically in the practicum. They tested the coefficient of restitution using tennis balls and table tennis balls. Using the Acoustic Stopwatch feature, they measured the time between two bounces. Based on the time data, the rebound height could be calculated, allowing them to determine the coefficient of restitution of the balls.

The event continued with an introduction to the Physics study program by Mr. Jatmiko Endro Suseno, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., F.Med. In this session, the students were introduced to various research projects conducted by the Department of Physics at Diponegoro University. It was hoped that this presentation would broaden the students’ understanding of developments in the field of physics beyond what is found in school textbooks.

Based on the feedback received, the students expressed their interest in having similar physics practicum activities with longer durations, in order to deepen their understanding of the topics and experiments conducted.
