Semarang, February 19, 2025 – Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) has once again strengthened its academic excellence with the inauguration of two new Professors from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM). The inauguration ceremony was held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Prof. Soedarto Hall, Universitas Diponegoro, Semarang, as a recognition of their outstanding academic contributions and research achievements.
On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Gatot Yuliyanto, S.Si., M.Si., was inaugurated as a Professor in Geophysics: Seismology-Microtremor. His inaugural speech, titled “Microtremor Method for Groundwater Exploration and Landslide Mitigation”, explored the application of the microtremor method in detecting subsurface structures related to groundwater resources and mitigating landslides. This method holds significant potential for groundwater resource management and safer spatial planning in disaster-prone areas.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Drs. Catur Edi Widodo, M.T., was inaugurated as a Professor in Computational Physics. In his inaugural speech, titled “Development of Medical Imaging Technology for the Detection of Covid-19 and Pneumonia”, Prof. Catur introduced advancements in AI-based medical image processing. His research aims to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of detecting respiratory diseases such as Covid-19 and pneumonia, providing a valuable tool for medical professionals to achieve faster and more precise diagnoses.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Undip’s academic leadership, faculty members, fellow researchers, and students. The achievements of these two professors highlight Undip’s commitment to producing impactful research, particularly in disaster mitigation and healthcare technology.
