Jepara (October 27th), The Community Service Team of the Electronics and Instrumentation Laboratory, Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Universitas Diponegoro, introduced the use of Arduino to students at Hasyim Asy’ari Bangsri Islamic Senior High School (MA) in Jepara. Students from grades 10 to 12 participated in the activity.
The event opened with remarks from the Principal of MA, Mr. KH. Zainal Umam, Lc., who expressed his hope that students would be motivated to develop their knowledge so that it could benefit the community and be considered a form of worship. This sentiment was echoed by Mr. Heri Sugito, S.Si., M.Si., F.Med., who emphasized the importance of continuing to learn regardless of age.
The event continued with an introduction to the Physics Department and a hands-on demonstration of building a water level monitoring device using Arduino, led by Mr. Dhani Nur Indra Syamputra, S.Si., M.Sc., assisted by a team of students from the Electronics and Instrumentation Study Group (KS Elins). During the activity, students from MA Hasyim Asy’ari directly assembled a device that could detect water levels and trigger a warning signal when the water level exceeded a certain threshold. Participants were enthusiastic and asked several critical questions about the device’s application to water level monitoring as an early flood detection system.
Prof. Dr. Catur Edi Widodo, M.T., also explained the robotics that can be built using Arduino. In his presentation, he explained that robots are automated devices designed to simplify students’ lives, and are not limited to human-like robots like Android robots. This presentation provided participants with a broader understanding of the application of Arduino in robotics.
It is hoped that this activity will motivate students at MA Hasyim Asy’ari Bangsri, Jepara, to study physics, electronics, and instrumentation, and improve their preparedness for flood disasters by creating a simple water level monitoring device.
