Department of Physics UNDIP – October 21, 2024
The Department of Physics at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) recently held an “Alumni Teaching” event featuring one of its distinguished alumni, Antonius Giri Martanto, S.Si., M.Si., a 1989 UNDIP Physics graduate who currently serves as Engineering and Quality Service Manager at PT KSB Indonesia (Industrial Pumps and Valves Manufacturer).
At this event, Mr. Antonius Giri Martanto presented a highly relevant and interesting topic for physics students: “The Competence of Physics Graduates in the Pump Industry.” In his presentation, he explained how fundamental physics knowledge, particularly in fluid mechanics, plays a crucial role in understanding and developing technology in the pump industry.
One of the key points emphasized by Mr. Antonius Giri Martanto was the relationship between Bernoulli’s law and the working principles of pumps. Bernoulli’s law, which describes the relationship between fluid velocity, pressure, and elevation, serves as a fundamental concept used to design and optimize the performance of industrial pumps. Additionally, he elaborated on the differences between laminar and turbulent flow and how these two types of flow affect the efficiency and design of pump systems.
Mr. Antonius Giri highlighted the importance of understanding physics concepts in addressing various challenges in the industry, particularly in terms of improving product quality and efficiency. According to him, physics graduates possess excellent competencies in system analysis, mathematical modeling, and solving technical problems—skills that are highly sought after in high-tech industries such as pump manufacturing.
Through this event, students are expected not only to gain insight into the application of physics in the industrial world but also to be more motivated to hone their skills to better compete in the job market.
The event also served as a networking opportunity between alumni and students, providing inspiration about the diverse and promising career prospects for physics graduates in various industrial sectors.
