Dr. Choirul Anam, S.Si., M.Si., F.Med., is one of the scientists from Diponegoro University (UNDIP) in the Faculty of Science and Mathematics who has been honored with The IUPAP Early Career Scientist Prize in Medical Physics 2022. This award is conferred by the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) in collaboration with the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP). The prestigious award ceremony took place in Mumbai, India, during the International Conference on Medical Physics (ICMP) held from December 6-9, 2023. The ICMP is an event organized every two years. The recipient of this award is a young scientist recognized for the significant contributions to medical physics globally, conducting medical physics research within a maximum of 8 years after completing their doctoral program. This award is singularly granted to one individual worldwide each year. The selection of the award recipient is carried out by a special committee comprising distinguished scientists worldwide.
In Dr. Anam’s substantial contributions to the field of medical physics, he has conducted comprehensive research on radiation dosage and image quality from computed tomography (CT) scanners. Together with his team, Dr. Anam has developed software for CT dosimetry, namely IndoseCT, and for image quality in CT, namely IndoQCT. Both software applications have been downloaded by students, scientists, and researchers from approximately 50 countries. To date, Dr. Anam has published around 200 papers, with 50 of them as the first author and nearly 100 indexed in Scopus. Previously, Dr. Anam, along with his team, received an award from the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) for the Best Paper in Medical Imaging Physics. Dr. Anam has also been honored twice as an Outstanding Reviewer by IOP Publishing. In 2019, he received the Young Leader Awards from the Southeast Asian Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (SEAFOMP). In 2022, Dr. Anam and his team received recognition as the best in the Innovation Implementation Optimization of Protection and Safety of Radiation Exposure in Medical Events at the Si-INTAN 2022 Workshop and Seminar, organized by BAPETEN.
